2012 Tech Track 100

Rank: 90   Farncombe

Built the platform that underpins Freeview's digital terrestrial TV service

Digital TV consultancy Farncombe provides advisory and engineering services, including product strategy, integration and hardware design, to customers such as Sky, BT and Virgin. Basingstoke-headquartered Farncombe was founded in 1991 by Andrew Glasspool and, in 2006, managing partners Dr Steve Upton and Jean-Marc Racine bought into the business. Sales, which include subsidiary Farncombe Engineering Services, grew 41% a year from £2.5m in 2008 to £7m in 2011. This growth is attributed to repeat business and the emergence of technology that lets people view content on multiple media platforms.
