When independent mechanics cannot diagnose a problem with a car, they consult software developed by Autologic Diagnostics. Its products can identify complex problems with cars from manufacturers including BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. Mechanics can pay a one-off fee for the software and extra for ongoing technical support from expert engineers. The company’s biggest market is the US, and sales grew 39% a year, from £5.5m in 2008 to an annualised £15m in 2011. Isis Equity Partners backed a £46m management buyout in January 2012, coming in alongside existing backer the Foresight Group.
