Developed in Cambridge, the AlertMe Smart Home platform lets people remotely monitor, control and automate aspects of their homes, including security, heating and energy use. Wireless devices receive and transmit data to the AlertMe hub in the home, which is then accessible online or via a smartphone. AlertMe works with partners such as British Gas, helping them to engage more with customers. Under chief executive Mary Turner, sales grew 169% a year from £390,000 in 2008 to £7.6m in 2011. AlertMe has raised more than £23m in venture capital since it was founded in 2006, and backers include Index Ventures and VantagePoint Capital.
