Cambridge-based CamSemi was founded in 2000 by two University of Cambridge professors as a spin-out of research into efficient power switches. The company develops silicon chips for power adaptors to improve energy efficiency. It first targeted devices that are permanently switched on, such as modems, and has more recently targeted mobile phone adaptors. Under chief executive officer David Baillie, sales increased 85% a year, from £1m in 2008 to £6.5m in 2011. The company is backed by DFJ Esprit.
