Sumir Karayi, Philip Wilcock and Mark Blackburn named their company after a Windows NT systems error that they were all too familiar with when they worked together at Microsoft. West London-based 1E now provides consultancy services and specialist software for British Airways, Nationwide and Tesco. It has developed software that turns off unattended PCs, saving electricity. The company has increased its sales 59% a year from £950,000 in 2000 to £2.4m in 2002.
