Sumir Karayi, Philip Wilcock and Mark Blackburn named their company after a Windows NT systems error that they were all too familiar with when working together at Microsoft. West London-based 1E now provides consultancy services and specialist software for clients such as British Airways, UBS and Microsoft. 1E is also pioneering software that makes PC networks more eco-friendly. Started with a £500 contribution from each of its three founders, the company has increased its sales 66% a year from £558,000 in 1999 to £1.5m in 2001.
