This Sheffield company forges bespoke steel components primarily for customers in the oil and gas industry. Founded in 1983 by group managing director Jackie Neal, 63, and her husband, Steve, 70, the pair initially ran it from home. Abbey has installed new forging hammers, heat-treatment furnaces and a 3,000 ton press. Because it operates from one site, it is also able to provide a seven-day express service. Profits grew to £10.6m in 2012.
