The Sheffield company forges bespoke steel components primarily for customers in the oil and gas industry. The business was founded in 1983 by group managing director Jackie Neal and her husband, Roger, who ran it from their home until it eventually outgrew the house. In 2008 Abbey installed new forging hammers and heat-treatment furnaces, and during this year will complete an extension in order to house a new ring-roller. The company’s profits have grown 60% a year from £795,000 in 2005 to £3.2m in 2008.
