With the UK over 50s population set to increase by 50% over the next 20 years, the growth of Saga Leisure looks assured for some time yet. The company, set up by the late Sidney De Haan in 1951 originally to fill his Folkestone hotel with customers, now supplies the over 50s market with anything from Nile cruises to financial services and insurance. The Kent-based company achieved sales of £312m in 2001, when it had 2,249 staff.
