Acromas was created in 2007 by Charterhouse, CVC and Permira when they merged the AA motoring organisation with Saga, the provider of services to the over-fifties. Led by chief executive Andrew Goodsell, 54, the company now has 18m customers and it has also become the country’s largest provider of care in people’s homes. The Kent group is reportedly in talks to refinance £4bn of loans, which could see Saga floated and the AA sold off. Sales rose 15% to £2.1bn in 2012.
