Actix develops software that helps eliminate the loss of signal to mobile phones. The software helps operators check their networks and pinpoint problem cells. It is also being used to implement third-generation (3G) mobile services.
Founded by Rob Dobson in 1991, Actix claims that its software is used in 20 countries by 100 mobile operators, from Sprint in America to Wind in Italy. The company, based in London, has opened offices in Shanghai and Singapore to target the fast-growing Asian market. Actix now employs 85 staff and its sales have grown 119% a year from £1.1m in 1999 to £5.2m in 2001.
