Actix develops software that helps mobile-phone operators improve voice quality, reduce dropped calls and increase network capacity. Founded by Rob Dobson in 1991, Actix says that its software is now used in 20 countries by 100 mobile operators, from Sprint in America to Wind in Italy. The company, based in London, has opened offices in Shanghai and Singapore to exploit the fast-growing Asian market. Sales have grown 81% a year from £875,000 in 1998 to £5.2m in 2001, when Actix had 56 staff.
