Adastra says its software is used to manage 90% of night and weekend calls made by patients to GPs in Britain. From next January, GPs will be able to opt out of providing out-of-hours care, and primary-care trusts will instead provide “hub” services to deal with emergencies. Adastra has been selected by the Department of Health to provide the software that will support these services and it expects its systems to handle 10m incidents a year. The company’s sales have grown 109% a year from an annualised £1.1m in 2001 to £5m in 2003.
