When credit-card issuers find suspicious transactions, Adeptra’s software automatically alerts cardholders by phone, fax or text and asks them to verify the purchase. Another recently introduced service prompts cardholders to pay their outstanding balances. Based in Reading and led by chief executive Lou Venezia, Adeptra has more than doubled its number of clients in the past two years. Sales have grown 80% a year from £1.4m in 2003 to £4.5m in 2005, while pre-tax losses have been shrinking steadily.
