ADL Healthcare

Andy Leaver joined Sainsbury’s graduate trainee scheme before moving into pharmaceuticals. After 15 years of working in wholesale drug trading for Napp Laboratories and Norton Healthcare, he founded ADL Healthcare in 1998. Leaver initially worked on commission, but the Staffordshire company now buys drugs and sells them to larger wholesalers such as Unichem. Leaver’s wife Linda and his brother and sister also work at ADL, and his mother chips in too. Every Tuesday morning she cooks a big breakfast for all the staff at the company’s Burton-on-Trent base. ADL’s sales have grown 241% a year from £835,000 in 1999 to £33.2m in 2002.
