After 15 years in the pharmaceuticals industry, Andy Leaver started ADL in 1998 working alone on commission. He now employs about 30 staff, buying and selling pharmaceuticals to larger wholesalers such as Phoenix. Leaver’s sister and his wife Linda also work at ADL. Even his mother lends a hand – every Tuesday she cooks breakfast for the staff at the company’s base in Burton upon Trent. ADL’s sales have grown 98% a year from £5.8m in 2000 to £44.7m in 2003.
