AFI-Uplift rents and sells access platforms to a wide variety of construction and maintenance firms in the UK and Middle East, enabling people to work safely at height. Since private-equity firm Rutland Partners bought a 51% stake in the company in 2013, it has made five acquisitions, including a UAE hire company which is supplying cherry pickers to help build the Abu Dhabi Midfield airport terminal. International sales rose to £9.5m in 2015, under chairman David Shipman, 56, and Middle East managing director, Chris Light, 64.
