Fast Track 100

John Lewis, River Island and Matalan are among the clients of this East Sussex firm. It was established in 2007 by serial entrepreneur Sean Welch, 48, who had already founded and sold one security tag business. In 2008 he spotted the opportunity to acquire Switzerland-based tag provider Agon Systems, absorbing it into his new UK venture and rebranding the group under the Agon name. The firm’s Concept Tag — which is impossible to remove with traditional hook or magnetic releasers — was initially tested in JD Sports and the retailer reported a 66% reduction in shoplifting in its stores. Agon says its tags are now used in more than 1,000 shops worldwide, helping boost sales to £6.6m in the year to September.
