Wholesale computer component distributor AGP Distribution underwent a major transformation back in 1993. It narrowed its range of products and enhanced service and support, enabling the company to grow from £2.7m in 1994 to £22m in 1997. Founder and chief executive Andy Turver says he’s now focused on finding and retaining good employees to guarantee better levels of service – not an easy task in a low-tech region like Hampshire. To retain people, Turver organises events outside the workplace, such as away-days and football matches to foster camaraderie. “We’re not just a 9 to 6 company,” he enthuses. “We’re involved in each other’s lives.” Currently in the process of opening an American subsidiary, Turver expects this move to help the company reach sales of £35m in 1998.
