Founded and owned by Adrian Stafford-Jones, Albany develops software for e-transactions including payments, document distribution and account verification. Boasting 12,000 business customers, the Hampshire company claims to have 35% of the British software market for electronic funds transfer. In 2004 it also launched software for large and medium-sized businesses, including the BBC and Virgin Mobile. Industry changes requiring businesses to update their electronic payment systems helped to boost sales 59% a year from £3m in 2003 to £7.6m in 2005.
