Francis Wallinger says he can turn data into gold. He founded Alchemetrics in 1996 to develop software for drawing valuable information from large databases.
Customers such as Telewest, Emap and Age Concern use it to mine their databases for information on clients. This is then used to target marketing more accurately. Sales of the firm, based in Wokingham, Berkshire, have risen 93% a year, from £904,000 in 1998 to £3.4m in 2000.
