Tech Track 100

Debt collecting for Hereford council taught Tony Killeen that there had to be a better way for people to pay their bills. So in 1996 he devised Allpay as an electronic payment system that allows people to use their own swipe cards to pay bills instantly, from rents to court fines. Today, the Allpay card can be used at more than 40,000 locations nationwide, including newsagents, petrol stations and 19,000 post offices. Sales grew 77% a year from £1.1m in 1999 to £3.3m in 2001.
