Tech Track 100

Alphatec Software aims to ensure that the cheques you write are paid into the correct bank accounts. Founded in 1996 by Ted Taylor and Grant Browning in their homes, Alphatec began by providing consultancy and software to speed up the cheque-clearing systems of several banks. Ted Taylor is no longer with the company.

The company now provides software that enables payments to be made and cheques to be cleared between different banks. Its biggest customer is EDS, the outsourcing giant.

Sales at the Milton Keynes company grew 101% a year from £788,000 in 1999 to £3.2m in 2001.
