Founded in 2005 by veteran pub entrepreneur Clive Preston, Amber Taverns owns and manages 70 pubs in the north of England. It purchases closed or struggling freehold establishments in lively locations, and undertakes extensive refurbishment work before equipping them with audiovisual entertainment systems and Sky TV. Amber claims its drinks are competitively priced, thanks in part to a supply agreement with Heineken. Last year LGV Capital bought an 84% stake in the Preston-based firm for an undisclosed amount. Sales rose 70% a year, from £3.7m in 2008 to £18.5m in 2011.
