AMC traces its origins to the founding of the London Metal Exchange in 1877. Since then it has grown into an international group that trades, distributes and produces metals, metal products and construction materials. The business operates through two divisions, which have operations in 11 countries on five continents: AMC Trading participates in both physical and electronic trading of metals, and AMC Industrial is its manufacturing arm. The group is run by chief executive Harold Sher, 66, and chairman Helmut Stodieck, 74.
