Anglian Water serves more than 6m customers in the east of England and Hartlepool, and owns a commercial and residential property company. The Cambridgeshire-based group was taken private for £2.3bn in 2006 by Osprey Acquisitions, a consortium of foreign pension funds and the private-equity house 3i. Led by chief executive Peter Simpson, 50, it announced a joint venture with Northumbrian Water in March in preparation for the deregulation of the water market in England for corporate customers, such as businesses and schools, on April 1.
