Bolton-based DRL sources and supplies white goods for the website customers of high-street names such as Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Next and Boots. Fridges, cookers and washing machines are among the household appliances that DRL distributes, linking the customer with a logistics provider to give delivery dates based on what is in stock. Founded by chief executive John Roberts with angel investor backing, the company also sells direct to consumers through its website, Appliancedeals.co.uk. It claims to sell 6,000 appliances online a week. DRL’s sales grew 73% a year from an annualised £10.2m in 2004 to £52.8m in 2007.
