Trading conditions on Britain’s high streets may be tough, but Arcadia’s Topshop and Topman brands enjoyed a surge in online sales this year. Sir Philip Green’s Arcadia group also encompasses brands such as Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis, Evans and Miss Selfridge. With more than 2,500 outlets across Britain, and a network of international franchises selling clothes in 30 countries, sales reached £1,847m in 2008. The Green family also owns BHS, ranked in this list at No56, the operations of which may soon be merged with Arcadia.
