Two deals that have come to fruition since the start of the year will boost turnover at Archant, the acquisitive Norwich-based regional newspaper group, which in 2004 posted sales of £185.6m and operating profits of £33m. In March the family-owned company, under chief executive John Fry, paid Highbury House £6.1m for six local magazine titles. In February it snapped up the consumer-magazine group Romsey Publishing. The business now publishes four daily newspapers, almost 40 weekly paid-for newspapers, more than 50 weekly freesheets and 30 regional, hobby, contract and French magazines.
