Arco

Founded in 1884, workplace safety firm Arco originally made tennis balls for Wimbledon. Under fourth-generation family member Thomas Martin, 50, and joint managing director Neil Jowsey, 50, the Hull group now sells 22,000 items of safety clothing and equipment, from high-visibility vests to heavy-duty boots. Last year Arco spent £2m establishing 10 regional centres to refine its sales network. It is also a consultancy service.
