Workplace safety specialist Arco was founded in 1884 and originally made tennis balls for Wimbledon. The Hull-based company now sells a range of 22,000 items of safety clothing and equipment, such as high-visibility vests and heavy-duty boots, and its clients include the Royal Navy, the international express delivery and logistics company DHL and Toyota. The business has 40 branches in Britain and Ireland, a subsidiary in India and operations in China. Sales reached £230m in 2011 under fourth-generation family member Thomas Martin and joint managing director Nicholas Hildyard.
