If you have ever had to explain an ailment to different medical staff within the same hospital, you will be reassured to hear that the NHS is trying to transform its records system. Ardentia designs and licenses software to integrate and analyse databases, and last year won a £9m contract from BT Syntegra to help reorganise the NHS care records service. It was founded by Tom Mulhern in 1999 through a management buyout from Acuity Healthcare. Sales have risen 99% a year from £1.1m in 2002 to £4.4m in 2004.
