The campaign to make people eat five pieces of fruit and veg a day has helped push sales to £351.4m at Argent Group in 2007; most of it from its core businesses, Poupart and Fairfax. For over 100 years, Poupart has been supplying fruit to Britain’s supermarkets and now also to retailers in continental Europe. Fairfax supplies steaks to many leading restaurants and steak houses. The company was created in 1997 when managing directors Andy Hunter and David Gray led a £90m buyout from Hillsdown Holdings backed by Cinven.
