Argent Group supplies fruit to supermarkets in Britain and mainland Europe, and owns one of Britain’s largest catering butchers, Fairfax Meadow. A New Zealand subsidiary is also the world’s largest tanner of farmed deer leather. Formed in 1997 after a buyout from Hillsdown Holdings, Argent’s ownership changed in March last year when a group of directors and shareholders, including founder and managing director David Gray, led a £32m buyout from private-equity investor Cinven. The company reported turnover of £466.7m in 2010.
