The founder of this Glasgow company, Sir Arnold Clark, died last year having built it into one of Britain’s largest independent car dealer groups. Clark started trading cars in the 1950s after leaving the RAF. Now led by group managing director Eddie Hawthorne, 51, the company announced in February plans to recruit 300 apprentices for roles at its 200 dealerships across the UK.
