Arqiva provides much of the broadcast, satellite and mobile communications infrastructure in Britain and has engineered the country’s five-year £630m digital switchover, which will be completed this year. The company also has operations in Ireland, mainland Europe and America, and its customers include the BBC, ITV and BSkyB. The business was created in 2005 through the £1.3 billion acquisition of NTL’s broadcast infrastructure division by a consortium that included the Australian bank Macquarie. Led by chief executive John Cresswell, the Winchester company increased its sales to £826m in 2011.
