A leading player in digital television, Arqiva provides much of the infrastructure behind television, radio and wireless communications in Britain, and the company also has operations in Ireland, mainland Europe and America. Although it is winding down its online television service, SeeSaw, it is helping with the planned launch of YouView, a video-on-demand service that is planned for Freeview in 2012. Customers include leading broadcasters such as the BBC, ITV and BSkyB. The business was created in 2005 through the acquisition of NTL’s broadcast infrastructure division for £1.3 billion by a consortium led by the Australian bank Macquarie. Sales at the Winchester-based business increased to £823m in 2010, and John Cresswell joined as chief executive in January.
