Arup, the engineering and design consultancy based in London, is designing the stadium that will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Arup was founded in 1946 by Danish-born Ove Arup and has worked on many famous structures, including the Pompidou Centre in Paris and the Sydney Opera House. Its sales dropped slightly to £395m in 2003 because of the weakening American dollar.
