Asco provides logistics, waste management and freight services for clients in the oil and gas industry such as BP and Shell. It is led by group chief executive Derek Smith, 47, and has its headquarters in Aberdeen, though it operates worldwide. Doughty Hanson, the private equity firm, bought the company in 2011 in a £250m deal. Asco has gone on to acquire three Canadian oilfield services businesses, a software firm in Australia, and a training and development company in Aberdeen.
