Clive Titcomb, a former IBM salesman, set up ASTRAC in 1987 to provide support services for an IBM system that enables companies to trawl databases for information. The software was discontinued by IBM in 1998, whereupon Titcomb bought the rights to continue developing it. Sales increased 54% a year, from £1.5m in 1998 to £3.5m in 2000.
