Clive Titcomb set up Astrac in 1987 to provide support services for an IBM system that enables companies to trawl databases for information and therefore make better decisions. IBM discontinued the system in 1998, whereupon Titcomb bought the rights to develop it. The profitable Warwick company says 90% of its sales come from overseas. Such exports have helped increase sales by 98% a year from £1.5m in 1999 to £5.9m 2001.
