New video games need to be tested and formatted for foreign markets. Babel Media, set up by Algy Williams, Ben Wibberley and Anthony McGaw operates across web-based, handheld and wireless platforms. The company also localises and converts mobile games to more than 100 handset types. With £500,000 of new funding this year, Babel is set to continue its expansion with a move into Canada. Its annual sales increase of 67% from £1.7m in 2002 to £4.9m in 2004 is due to a growing tendency by the likes of Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft to outsource games testing and formatting.
