Mike Parsons set up the company in 1993, when he was unable to find high quality care homes for relatives. It now runs more than 200 upmarket nursing homes caring for more than 10,000 people. Growth has been aided by acquisitions, including the takeover of Westminster Healthcare for £525m in 2004. Led by Parsons and chairman Denis Brosnan, and majority-owned by Irish entrepreneurs John Magnier, JP McManus and Dermot Desmond, sales reached £413.1m in 2009.
