This Crewe-based franchisor of 650 sites is best known for its Bargain Booze chain, which sells discounted beer, wine and spirits. The company, founded in 1981, also owns the Thorougoods and Select Convenience franchises. All the stores are serviced from Bargain Booze’s two distribution centres. ECI Partners backed a £64m buyout from food distributor BWG in 2006, and is reported to have put the franchisor up for sale with a £100m price tag. Joint managing directors Tim Stanley and Matthew Hughes and their team took sales to £371.2m in 2010 boosted by the expanding franchise network.
