This company is a petrol retailer whose largest and most successful outlet is next to Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport. Switching its petrol supply from Elf to Shell in 2001 gave a boost to this Cheshire company – sales have since risen by more than 20m litres, according to co-founder David Tattersall. Bargainsound now has nine outlets in northwest England, for which it franchises out retail operations. Sales represent the value of the petrol sold plus the shop rental income and have grown 171% a year from £1.1m in 2000 to £22.2m in 2003.
