Bond villains would love Barrett’s new Jumbo Laser Steel Cutting Machine, which, the family-owned company says, is the only one in the country that can cut steel up to 18m long and 5.5m wide. The Bradford group has more than 50 subsidiaries, and carries over 80,000 tonnes of steel at any moment. It also offers customers processing facilities and shot blast finishing. Managing director James Barrett has led acquisitions, organic expansion and investment in plant and technology which, together with rising steel prices, have helped boost 2007 sales to 390,000 tonnes worth £261m.
