Founded as a coal merchant almost a century ago, this West Yorkshire firm’s diverse interests have switched to fuel management and oil distribution. Last year it bought 50% of the Right Fuelcard Company (No 191), it also owns the 13,000-acre Laudale Estate near Fort William, and bought Michelin-starred restaurant the Yorke Arms outside Harrogate last November. This year, it launched a gas and electricity supply business, Gulf Gas and Power UK. It is led by chief executive Jonathan Turner, 52.
