Having survived one recession, chief executive Peter Reynolds of Beresford Blake Thomas, says his company is prepared for the next. In a typically cyclical industry, the London-based recruitment company has recession-proofed its business by offering a diverse range of services. During boom years, it benefits from placing engineers and IT-trained personnel. During economic downturns it is busy sending medically-trained personnel and social service workers to places as far away as South Africa. Still like many companies in its industry – and 18 other companies on this league table – Beresford Blake Thomas has had to turn to factoring to survive. Sales have grown from £663,000 to almost £9m in 1997.
