Bernard Matthews may not appear so regularly on our television screens these days, but his company continues to grow strongly. Sales rose to £401m in 2002, but the famous Turkey Roast is no longer the best-seller. About 85% of the firm’s sales now come from drumsticks and kievs, and Matthews claims to be the biggest producer of frankfurters in central Europe. The Norfolk company was listed on the stock exchange for 30 years, but Matthews bought it back in 2001 in a £232m deal.
