Under chairman Sir Anwar Pervez, 83, Bestway has grown from a single grocery store, opened in 1963, to Britain’s largest, privately owned cash-and-carry group. The London company also operates 798 Well Pharmacy stores across the UK, as well as a cement manufacturer and a bank in Pakistan. Bestway launched a van sales division in January, having acquired 180 vans from Palmer & Harvey after its rival entered administration in 2017. In April, it also acquired the retail brands of collapsed drinks distributor Conviviality for £7m.
